Death by Chocolate

This is the 4th dessert for my 30 days dessert project. This time I was told by a friend that I should try Death by Chocolate from Riders Cafe. She dared me and said that I will hate chocolates for a week. Challenge accepted!

I did some Google-ing to see if the dessert was really that deadly, like how it's named. The pictures I found looked the same as when I ordered it and it does look deadly.

Riders Cafe is far when you have to walk from the nearest bus stop which takes you about 20 minutes to reach. If you have a vehicle, it's so much more convenient to get there.

Once you see horses in their stables on your right, you're just a few seconds from the cafe. The cafe looks like a kampong house in my opinion. It has those windows and the stairs just like a kampong house would have! However you see it, it is a beautiful building.

As my friend and I sat at the balcony side, there was a nice view overlooking some stables maybe and some greens. I love the atmosphere of the cafe. Good place to have your lunch and a wonderful place to bring your date.

I wasn't there to enjoy the atmosphere but to try the Death by Chocolate! We were served with some plain water and I requested mine to be warm. As the waitress took our orders and left, we chatted about some random stuff(not important haha). My friend ordered Strawberry Mess, you know what I ordered and we ordered fries to share.

Her order and the fries came first. A few minutes later, my Death by Chocolate came. It looked awesome. It's an overflow of chocolate fudge poured over a slice of chocolate cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream at one corner. I scooped some fudge and put it in my mouth. It was delicious. Then I scooped some more fudge with the cake and ate it. The cake was as warm as the fudge and it has a nice texture to it. It has soft parts and some almost crunchy areas. It was really good.

The fudge was warm and that made me want to scoop the ice cream up. Like I said on the post about WaveHouse's Lava Cake, it is just a vanilla ice cream. But it's function is similar. It gives your mouth some fresh taste and the coolness of the ice cream really helps to balance the warm fudge and the cake. After a while, I finished it. I felt good. My friend was so surprised that I actually finished it!

As we munched on the fries, we saw some horses from where we were seated. A relaxing view after a nice meal. I never tried the Strawberry Mess my friend ordered. I was too busy eating the dessert that would have killed me.

It was a dessert worthy of it's name. The waiter that was clearing the table seemed surprised that I finished Death by Chocolate. I suppose that not many survived. I felt good.

I really enjoyed eating Death by Chocolate but I cannot have it anytime soon. Maybe after I finished this project? I dare you to try. Here's a tip: go there hungry and eat that as your main course. Then decide on a dessert. Hope you survive (:

WaveHouse Sentosa Chocolate Lava Cake

This is the 3rd dessert for my 30 days dessert project. This time I dined in WaveHouse Sentosa.

When I saw the menu, I expected quite a large portion of cake. Not like the whole cake but like how a slice of cake would look like. I was very surprised to discovered when the order came.

The dish consists of the lava cake itself topped with small strips of dried red chilli skins, a vanilla ice cream and mixed sliced citrus fruits. And not forgetting a zesty sauce(is that what you call it?) spread over the plate.

It may look small but it has flavors. The chocolate cake is just delicious! The moment you tear open the cake with your fork, you could see the melted chocolate oozing out from the core. As you take the first bite form the cake, you can feel that it's warm and the cake just crumbles softly in your mouth and the flavor spreads around the walls almost evenly. Yum..

The citrus salsa helps to add more flavor and color into the dish. I don't understand why this is included but the more ingredients the better(for this this that is). Maybe I'll ask the chef why the citrus salsa and update this section.

The vanilla ice cream. Nothing really special about vanilla ice cream right? But in this case, it is essential in this dish. The ice cream helps to clear your mouth from that chocolatey taste thus allowing you to gorge deeper into the lava cake. It doesn't really clears you mouth but it gives your taste buds a bhat creak from all thocolate. It's best to take a bite when the ice cream is still cold, if you scoop up the melted part, it's just milk. Tip: two bite cake and one bite ice cream or however you like it. Note: there's some crumbs below the ice cream which I have yet to figure out what it is. I'll ask the chef.

Now for the zesty sauce. All I know it's zesty like mango plus orange together. I've no idea where this fills in the dish and maybe it's time for me to know more about such complicated food.

To sum it up, it's a very nice dessert. If you like chocolate, you'll like this. Looks simple but I suppose there's a way to eat this properly like knowing what the sauce and citrus salsa is for. It goes for SGD$10.50 but it's SGD$12.30 after GST. Buy it on Wednesdays where everything including the rides in WaveHouse Sentosa is buy 1 get 1 free except for Billabong retail products.

Breeks Signature Brownies

Today's dessert is Breeks' Signature Brownie. Bought it at Harbourfront Centre just opposite Starbucks for SGD$3. I was beginning to worry that I would not be able to find a dessert as I was at Universal Studios for almost the whole day! I'll post my USS trip on another day.

The brownie was simple. It's a brownie. It's has pieces of pecan which is nice. The texture was good to me. Crumbs would fall as you slice it, as most most brownies will too. Taste wasn't too complicated. I like it. It's simple.

For SGD$3, it's a simple yet delicious dessert to end with a heavy meal. I think it might go well with vanilla ice cream. Chocolate and vanilla, you can't go wrong right?

Awfully Chocolate Super Stacked Chocolate Cake

Today is the first day of the 30 Days dessert project. I'm gonna try out 30 different desserts in 30 days and upload a pic and give a personal comment on it. Like how it taste and how much is it. Comment as you may but let it be a positive one and add in your own recommendations as well! Good stuff must share!

The first cake is from Awfully Chocolate which is the Super Stacked Chocolate Cake. I bought mine at Vivocity but you can get it at any of their store. It's sold at $6.50 for 100g and mine was at $7.80 for 120g. It looked super chocolatey just by looking at it. As quoted from the website "A thicker, richer version of our All Chocolate cake with more bite, with different kinds of chocolate used for the six inner and outer fudge layers " It is what it. Thicker and richer. It's so sinful just as I took my first bite and taste similar to their Dark Chocolate Truffle which is very sinful too to those who've tried it. I love the texture and how the flavor just explodes in your mouth. As you swallow the chocolate, the taste still lingers in your mouth as you take another bite from it.

Ever since I tried their Dark Chocolate Truffle, I knew chocolate would never taste the same. As they are a local brand, I'm very happy and proud for the quality of their products. They're of splendid quality.

For chocoholics this cake will not disappoint. A lot of chocolate and nothing less. Dig in!

STAR WARS : Episode 1 3D

I've finally watched a 3D movie in the theater. Just tagged along with Gasz, Shiqin and Hidayah since they asked me. There wasn't much difference really. There was the 3D effect but to me, the story is much more important. The additional visual experience was not worth in my personal opinion. I will stick to 2D and a good movie as of now.
